Basic design to the real tattoo

So you have come up with a basis for your own design for your own tattoo. Now you need to work on the design and turn it into a beautiful tattoo. Again, if you think you have the necessary artistic ability in you, go ahead and design your tattoo yourself.

Look at other tattoos(on the internet, yes), the shading patterns they have used, the colors they use and try and incorporate those techniques into your own tattoo. Here, I strongly advise you take the assistance of a professional artist. Go to him with your basic design. Tattoo artists have been doing this for years, and they can convert your simple line drawing into a real tattoo design in minutes.

The internet can again come of use to you. There are various tools and software available on the internet that can assist you. Create a tattoo is one website that makes converting line drawings into tattoos, a breeze.

Finding the artist

There are a lot many tattoo artists available that can offer their services. However, picking and choosing a good and accessible one among them can be quite a chore. The best and easiest method is to find a friend or someone who has already gotten a good tattoo done and get the information from them, since he/she will already have done the research before zeroing in on a tattoo artist.

Your other options would be the yellow pages or directories of tattoo artists that can be found online. Just do a simple search for tattoo artists directory in your favorite search engine. Once you have found some local artists, visit them. Most of them will have samples of their previous work. See if you like their work. Talk to them. In case you feel uncomfortable, just leave.

Another good source is tattoo galleries, again on the internet. These galleries list a lot of actual tattoo art, often including details such as the tattoo parlor where it was done and the tattoo artist who did it. When you find a tattoo you like, contact the artist and ask for more info or samples. They would be most willing to provide you with it. Talk to them. Find more about them. Track down previous customers and talk to them. You need to be aggressive and pro-active if you want to find a good tattoo artist.

Once you find a good tattoo artist, he/she will help you further refine your tattoo before it turns into the real thing.

Get a temporary tattoo

Since the tattoo will reside on your skin for life, it should be a good idea to first get a temporary tattoo done on yourself, so you can have a feel of what the tattoo will actually look like on your skin. This gives you yet another chance to back off in case you don’t like the look of the design on your body. Besides, it will also allow you to experiment with the placement of the tattoo on your body.

Your options for a temporary tattoo would be airbrush tattoos(which uses body paint) or Mehndi designs(which uses a natural plant dye). Since you would most probably get your tattoo artist to put the temporary tattoo on your skin, it would be a good idea to sit down and discuss with him/her what method would be most suitable for a temporary tattoo.

You could even print out a tattoo on a temporary tattoo paper using an inkjet printer. You can find instructions on the Microsoft website on how to do this.

Now, there’s one final and important step - actually getting tattooed! Of what use are all the above steps if you don’t get get the actual tattooing done.
